THEIR GROWTH

On average, an olive tree sapling needs ~3-5 years to reach fruit-bearing maturity. Meaning, it takes ~3-5 years for your olives to be harvested and cold-pressed into EVOO.

But we don’t leave you empty-handed until then! From the moment you subscribe, we prepare your annual EVOO shipment (1L of ORO SICANI EVOO per tree in your allotment) and send you our private blend of limited edition ORO SICANI Amici Reserve Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

THEIR YIELD

One olive tree typically produces 1L of EVOO, sometimes more depending on the year (chiefly due to the climate over the past year).

THEIR TYPE

Why do we plant different olive varietals? Well, we consulted multiple experts from our gorgeous region who have over a century of olive growing experience between them, and the short answer is: Because it makes for better EVOO.

Cold-pressing a blend of olive types into one EVOO produces a more balanced flavour profile. The different olive varietals also promote pollination of each other, helping the individual olive trees to flourish, producing better olives and better EVOO for you!

Your Nocellara del Belice olives – give a luxurious “creaminess” to the EVOO, a fruity aroma, and  a gentle earthy, nutty flavour;

Your Biancolilla olives – give the most yield of EVOO, a fruity aroma, and a light herbaceous taste;

Your Cerasuola olives – give a robustness to the EVOO, a bold, peppery aroma, and add spicy bitterness;

Your Piricuddara olives – give you a taste of an olive varietal that is native to the Sicani Mountain region (it’s hard to grow at lower altitudes). They also help to pollinate the Nocellara del Belice olive trees. 

THEIR HARVEST

Olive harvesting season, La Raccolta as it’s called, starts in late October and continues all the way through to January of the following year.

The earlier you harvest in the season, the better the EVOO taste.

The sooner you cold-press olives once they’ve been harvested, the better the EVOO freshness.

Basically, the sooner, the better the quality of EVOO. This is why we harvest in late October/early November and cold-press our harvested olives within 12-24 hours.

Throughout this entire journey, we will give you regular updates about how the crop is performing and any climate considerations that may have affected your trees, as well as photos of your trees, videos of the annual cold-press process.

Each year of your ORO SICANI Olive Tree Membership you will have guaranteed access to 1L of ORO SICANI EVOO per tree in your allotment.

So, five trees in your ORO SICANI Olive Tree Membership = 5L of ORO SICANI EVOO;
10 trees in your ORO SICANI Olive Tree Membership = 10L of ORO SICANI EVOO;
50 trees in your ORO SICANI Olive Tree Membership = 50L of ORO SICANI EVOO, and so on.

*Some years your olive tree allotment may yield more than the ratio of 1L of EVOO per tree, so you will also have the option to purchase this additional EVOO at a discounted rate.
